About

Laboratory of Cellular Metabolism

Nutrient metabolism plays a fundamental role in life by providing the substrate and energy required to support all biological activities. The laboratory of Dr. Jiajun Zhu investigates how mammalian cells sense, acquire, and utilize nutrients including glucose, amino acids, nucleotides, vitamins and inorganic ions.

The laboratory aims to reveal basic principles in the metabolism of these nutrients, and how alterations in the metabolic processes lead to human pathologies such as cancer and age-associated disorders. We primarily take hypothesis-driven approaches to investigate interesting and important metabolic questions, but also employ unbiased and cutting-edge tools to consolidate scientific observations.

About Zhu Lab

The laboratory is located at the main campus of Tsinghua University, with ready access to state of the art experimental instruments and techniques provided by a number of facilities at the campus. The laboratory is also part of an inspiring and collaborative research program under Tsinghua Medicine, which possesses diverse expertise related to human health, including cancer biology, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology and infectious diseases.

Our about

Team Culture

Members of the laboratory have together fostered a friendly, helpful, and diligent scientific environment. Everybody is becoming an expert in their own research topic, and is supportive to each other’s studies.

We look forward to collaborations in various forms, with colleagues in the scientific community. We also welcome aspiring young scholars to join us in exploring the unknowns in metabolism.
